Bringing Fungi to Life with Artist, Author, and Fun-Guy, Bill Wurtzel

Did you parents ever tell you not to play with your food? Well, now you can!

Award-winning artist Bill Wurtzel invites you on a whimsical journey that began 64 years ago with a single funny breakfast he made for his wife, Claire, and mushroomed into international art exhibits, seven books, and workshops on healthy eating for thousands of children.

Discover the magic behind his latest creation, FUNGI, as Bill reveals why and how he transforms food into art. Prepare to be amazed by fascinating facts about the mysterious kingdom of fungi and marvel at his one-of-a-kind “mushroom art like nothing on Earth.”

Then, the fun really begins: You’ll get hands-on and create your very own mushroom masterpiece!

On display in the Leon Family Gallery August 18 thru September 30.

ARTIST BIO

Bill Wurtzel is a visual artist who uses healthy food as his medium. He began creating food art to amuse his wife, Claire, as well as entice their kids and grandkids to eat what was on their plates. He gets inspiration from the shapes, colors, and textures of food. After he snaps a photo, the "art" is eaten.

Prints of Bill's art have been exhibited in galleries and museums in the United States and abroad. Bill and Claire, an educator, have coauthored seven books illustrated with Bill's food art, including three "Best Children's Books." Bill is a former award-winning advertising creative director ("World's Best TV Commercials"). He is also a renowned jazz guitarist (Count Basie Countsmen, Harlem Blues & Jazz Band).

With Fungi, Bill takes food art in a new direction.
