Position Summary
Under the direction of the Editor of the Jewish News, the Advertising Sales Representative is responsible for generating revenue through the sale of advertising space in Jewish News publications.
This position is responsible for developing new business opportunities, maintaining strong relationships with existing advertisers, and helping clients connect with the Jewish and broader Tidewater community through effective advertising solutions. The Advertising Sales Representative serves as a trusted resource to clients by understanding their marketing goals and recommending advertising opportunities that support their business objectives.
Compensation for this position is based on a contractual draw against commissions. Payments are made monthly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Sales & Business Development
- Prospect and secure new advertising clients through networking, referrals, telephone outreach, email communication, and in-person meetings.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective advertisers.
- Grow existing accounts while identifying opportunities for additional advertising placements.
- Generate revenue through the sale of print advertising, advertising inserts, sponsorships, and special publication opportunities.
- Meet established sales goals and revenue targets.
- Schedule and conduct sales appointments and presentations.
- Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and prospective advertisers.
- Assess client needs and recommend advertising solutions that align with their goals and budget.
- Prepare and present advertising proposals and pricing options.
- Respond promptly to client inquiries and provide exceptional customer service.
- Maintain regular communication with clients to support long-term partnerships.
- Advertising Coordination
- Work closely with editorial, design, and production staff to ensure advertising requirements are met.
- Communicate advertising specifications, revisions, and deadlines to appropriate staff.
- Assist clients in selecting ad formats, placement options, and creative approaches that maximize effectiveness.
- Market Awareness
- Stay informed about publication demographics, readership trends, and advertising opportunities.
- Research market trends, competitors, and prospective clients.
- Utilize readership and demographic information to effectively communicate the value of advertising with Jewish News.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two to three years of sales, advertising, marketing, fundraising, or business development experience preferred.
- Proven ability to build relationships and influence purchasing decisions.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Professional, enthusiastic, and customer-focused approach.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, and Excel.
- Experience working in a service-oriented environment is preferred.
