The Cardo Cafe of the Sandler Family Campus (Located with the Simon Family JCC) in Virginia Beach, seeks a customer service-oriented individual for the full-time position (40 hours per week) of Cafe, Catering and Food Service Personnel.

Hours: 8 am - 4 pm regularly, with occasional varied hours.

Under the direction of the Cafe Supervisor and the Operations Manager, The Catering and Food Service Personnel position is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Cardo Food and Catering Services for the Sandler Family Campus with respect to all aspects of kitchen operations and in support of numerous in-house events/ programs. The position requires a team-oriented individual who works efficiently as a team member, ensuring high satisfaction in the preparation and service of food; operates the Cafe cash register, assists with set-up and food preparation for catering events, maintains efficiency in the Cafe such as cleaning and sanitizing all kitchen and work areas. The successful candidate works efficiently as a team member, ensuring high satisfaction is given to all patrons.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in daily cafe operations; Taking food order, operating cash register, set-ups and clean-ups
  • Food preparation for the Cardo Café and catering orders, as needed
  • Maintenance of kitchens and storage areas in an orderly fashion, as well as ensuring that these areas are appropriately sanitized
  • Maintenance of stock by keeping the manager apprised of the need to order product(s) when needed
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate cooking, baking, and serving temperatures on all foods.
  • Perform other appropriate tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Food and Catering Manager in support of all foodservice programs and operations
  • Assist with food preparation and cooking of meals for the school lunch program, fulfillment of catering orders and/or snack program


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma, with a minimum of two years prior food handling experience. Cash Register experience is a must
  • Fast Food restaurant experience helpful.
  • Familiarity with food service regulations and the proper and safe use of basic kitchen utensils and appliances.
  • Must be willing and able to participate in all food service training.
  • Must be creative, self-directed, and a team player, as well as the ability to handle conflict and demonstrate patience and understanding when working with children and customers. Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities, and the ability to remain flexible based upon the needs and priorities of the Campus, including the ability to work additional or varying work hours.
