This is the Introductory program to kick-off a series of programs/workshops/exhibitions, etc. on Jewish
Art in Tidewater (and up the Peninsula). The speaker, Ori Soltes, PhD is the son of a rabbi and a longtime advocate and expert on the Jewish Visual Arts. Dr. Soltes has spent a lifetime wrestling with questions that resonate through the history of the human experience. His dynamic teaching, lecturing, curating and writing reflect a broad series of interests and a unique ability to combine them in unusual ways that are thought-provoking and both challenging and intellectually exciting. Dr. Soltes currently teaches theology, art history, philosophy, and political history at Georgetown University. Soltes has lectured at dozens of museums across the country, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

This is the initial program that will be the basis for a multi-dimensional and multi-year series of Jewish Visual Arts programs.  The community will have the opportunity to initiate interaction and explore various aspects of this field.  Art exhibitions of drawings, paintings, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and video are potential areas for programs. Specific content and dates will be announced in the near future.
